Here goes …..

The smallest farmer overseeing drafting lambs.

So here it is – my first blog.

When I started the process of thinking about our website and talking to my web guru, James from Pogo, I had to try to paint a picture for him over the phone about us, the farm, where we lived, what we did.  Along the way he commented to me that our story and what we did as farmers was really intersting and that we should share this as other people would be interested too. And as we developed the site and we told family and friends what we were doing they said similar things to James.

I guess it remains to be seen whether they are right but you don’t know if you don’t give it a go, so here goes …….

Welcome to our farm!

I am Liz, married to Tim who is the fourth generation to farm at Lucerne Grove. We have a daughter Emme, who has just turned three and if her determination to follow her father out the door and down the yard is any indication she is already shaping up to be the fifth generation farmer.  Together, we are Three Farmers.

What are we up to at the moment? We’ve spent April weaning 8-10 month old calves off their mothers to allow the cows a spell before calving again in the next couple of months; we’ve drafted lambs to send to market and are trying to get ready for cropping time to start ….. if only it would rain.

Like all other farmers we know we are passionate about sustainable land management and animal welfare. We also feel a growing sense of responsibility in helping people understand where their food and fibre comes from. Maybe this blog will help.

We look forward to sharing news from our farm with you from time to time.

Along the way, ask as many questions as you like!
