Who We Are

Tim, Liz and Emme Harrington (Three Farmers) operate a farm business covering approximately 1000 acres at Fosterville in Central Victoria. The property runs along the Campaspe River with a mix of river flats and undulating loam soils.   The farm, known as ‘Lucerne Grove’, has been in the Harrington family for over 120 years and is possibly most well known for its Shorthorn cattle and lucerne production.

Shorthorn cattle are well regarded for their strong maternal instincts, excellent milk production, high fertility, meat quality and lovely temperament. The breed is also well known for its red, white or roan colouring.

The Harrington family have had milking shorthorns since their arrival at Lucerne Grove. Tim’s father, John Harrington, continued with the milking shorthorn cattle long after the family finished milking cows. Tim also bred milking shorthorn cows until the mid 1990s, with breeding cows with Willow Park bloodlines. John and Tim preferred to have milking shorthorn females and bred those females to poll shorthorn bulls to breed a first cross animal within the same breed of cattle.

In the early 2000s Tim decided to keep these females for his own herd replacements instead of breeding the milking shorthorns. Poll shorthorn sires have been sourced from studs including Nullamanna at Barham (Knox & Shirley Durrant) and Tatalia Shorthorns at Moama (Richard & Cheryl Ham).

Harrington’s have always liked the shorthorn cattle for their quiet temperament and weight for age.

Enquiries to view or purchase shorthorn heifers or steers are welcome.
